Goodman & Diederich of Chicago was founded in 1914 as a manufacturer of pocket banks and other promotional items for savings banks. One of the founders, Harry Solomon Goodman, had many patents to his name. In 1921, the company changed its name to Bankers Thrift Corporation and became known for the “Feed the Goose” mechanical bank as well as Home Savings Banks (a coin bank in the shape of a cottage). In 1929, it acquired the Stronghart Company. In 1931, the business was purchased by Jerome Aronson and Joseph Eisendrath, who renamed it Banthrico.
